I have suspected Bob Hartley since this whole thing began. One of the things I like about him is that he stuck around for a few years with the NHL clubs he coached. No firings within a year or two. With the Avs his record was 193-108-48-10. I know that was a pretty stacked team, but they went to the third round 3 times and won a cup under him. Consider the teams who have won the cup in recent years, and how well they have sustained their success. Then he went to Atlanta and his record was 137-118-13-24. That team was hardly stacked, and had the whole Heatley/Snyder situation during his tenure. He's coached in both the Q and the AHL and performed well with less than stacked teams. We know the Habs will be far from stacked for a few years, so perhaps he is a guy who can pull the absolute best from the guys. I also like that he has continued to coach in a good league, rather than take a seat on L'antichambre. My only concern is that he has a reputation as a disciplinarian. This is not a bad thing unless it borders on punitive. Then it stops working. It should be fun to watch. |

People have been talking about Hartley for a while.
If he is in fact chosen, there was alot of talk of Therrien as an assistant and then possibly Veuilleux leaving Shawinigan to join him as well.
Guess we'll have to see.

A little discipline in PK's life may be the best thing to ever happen to him. First we need to get him signed. |

Do you (not you but in general) honestly think a guy like Hartley would implement more discipline than Jacques Martin |

It's not like Bob Hartley stopped coaching for long....
If he does become the Habs coach, i'm sure he'll do a good job. |

I didn't really get the sense JM implemented a lot of rational discipline. Certainly his vets were allowed to suck on the ice and continue to get minutes while the rookies would be glued to the bench following an error. I'd like to see more meaningful discipline, where people are held to the responsibilities of clearly defined roles.
My fear for PK is that if some coach or mentor is not able to rein him in a little, while still letting him play his style, that he will have a career of annoying the poop out of his team mates. |

I think the view is that these guys may be assistants to Hartley? Who knows? |

If this is true than my close friends will have to laugh. I said Hartley right from the beginning. I would like to see him in Montreal. Passionate coach. Did the best he could in ATL with no players except a couple stars. I wonder if Robinson would still be interested if Hartley was the coach. I also wonder what the first player move will be and how much he gives PK and Price |

Don't worry it's not true.
And you do know that the Coach does not give players contracts or make player moves. |
